双結晶の角度は2×14°に等しい[10]。レーザーダイオードと高輝度の青色および緑色発光ダイオード（LED）の生産は急速に発展しています。信号灯から苦しんでいる患者の治療まで、同様の急速な成長がアプリケーション分野で観察されています。
サファイア基板に取って代わる潜在的な材料とみなされる基板がたくさんありますが、そのリーズナブルな価格と比較的低いミスマッチのため、基板（GaN LED成長用）市場では依然として支配的です。
